I find it hard to get excited about the books on the shelf of the average book shop. How often do you discover something really different, from somewhere you did not know?
I am reading a book from every country in the world: an A-Z of world literature, starting with Afghanistan, ending with Zimbabwe.
By reading one novel from each and every country in the United Nations, I hope to uncover the deep reservoir of experience from around the world that is expressed in novels but rarely make their way onto our shelves or bestseller lists — stories of migrants, civilians in wartime or resistance fighters.
